Our baby was born on our wedding day,
Just so small and developing in its own special way.

When we loved each other, the baby – it grew,
But with his lies and deceit, the baby suffered, who knew?

But then, I sensed it was dying as the years rolled along,
But he said I was crazy and kept whistling his song.

I cried and I pleaded, “We must help the baby!”
He shrugged and told me, “In time – we’ll see – maybe.”

I got angry and gasped, “It’s gonna die, don’t you care?”
“Oh, you overreact!” he would say with a stare.

“I can’t do it alone; I can’t make it live!
My dear you must help! Why won’t you give?”

“It’s barely breathing and turning quite cold,
Won’t you help save our baby so it can grow old?”

My pleas were falling on deaf ears for years,
And my heart was broken and eyes filled with tears.

Withered and broken, the baby did die,
My pleadings meant nothing – why, oh, why?

The baby, our marriage, of course you can see,
Could not make it with one so neglectful as he.

b-trayed-that is such a but beautiful poem, but unfortunately it is filled with such saddness-I felt chills and some tearing when reading it. What a strong woman you must be to have come through all of this. They say God never gives us more than we can bear, but sometimes I wonder!

    thank you b-trayed.
YOu are woman stepping out of the shadows, and taking some risks. I know it costs you every time you name a hard truth. For each hard truth we tell, we let go of a killing fantasy and move closer to that abundant life that belongs to us.
    lots of Light,
    Diane.

B, Beautifully written. It really resonates. You wonder why someone would hold your hand and make that marital commitment and then seem so detached when you cry for help to keep it from drowning. I would share it with my h (it resonated enough that I actually would want to throw it at him) but I know he is in a place now that it would be cruel.

    Thanks sisters.

Lylo, your heart of compassion is unearthly. Love your enemy, I guess. So beautiful.

Karen, haunting…did not think of that word…so aptly fits. What we all dreamed of…a haunting marriage. So much wasted time and energy and sadness. If we only knew.

    Diane,

I think you know me better than I know myself at times. Stepping out of the shadows-I guess I am, so true, never looked at it like that. It does and will cost me when I name a hard truth, but then it costs us when we don’t name them also.

I thought I knew, but I am truly realizing that I live for an audience of One. All others think they know my situation, but they are lacking the view of the entire iceberg – they see the tip, and only barely. The more I show them, the less they usually allow themselves to see…squint their eyes or close them entirely when reality starts to present itself. I too have denied reality at times, but now I crave reality, like a starving POW craves his daily portion of bread.
    Much love, b
