ParticipantCurious. I’m not very interent tech savvy. Today when i got home I could tell my h had laid on my bed. My laptop is there and when I opened it to log on to my yahoo mail the security username and password box came up. It usually doesn’t do that unless someone else has used it. So in that box there was a email address. I’m assuming it was the last person logged in because that has happened when my son or grandson has used my laptop. But I didn’t recognize this address. It was free2rhyme@yahoo.com. I used Be’v,s Spokeo and got nothing really. 38 matches. How can that be? I thought an e-mail address had one user.
Is this nothing?

ParticipantI think it Yahoo uses that (free2rhyme@yahoo.com) as an example of how you should sign in.

Memberhey..don`t beat yourself up!! We all understand hyper vigilance. Just because this was ‘nothing” does NOT mean that your intuition is not picking up on something fishy??

ParticipantYou’re not a dingbat, I’m a dingbat. I thought the hotel room charged on the credit card on Valentine’s Day was a surprise for me and he just forgot to take me! Oh it was for another hooker. Silly Dingbat ME:)

ParticipantI guess he was just laying in our/my bed watching TV. I do HATE coincidences anymore. I don’t believe in them but I’m crazy paranoid because of them.

MemberHe may have tried to sign onto your laptop.. That is why the account made you log in?? IF I was a sneaky SA, loking for porn, then I would absolutely use wife`s computer…I would hide crap in THEIR closet… You gotta think like a criminal to catch these guys…My laptop is locked down with a password he would never guess!!

ParticipantOh Dawn, on Valentines Day, what else would you expect? Certainly NOT that!!
I’m OK, You’re OK. 🙂

ParticipantThanks Bev for helping me. I looked myself and my H up on Spokeo. It didn’t show much of anything. Income, photos of residence, property value. what’s the big deal about Spokeo?
August 23, 2012 at 12:51 am #49117joann
ParticipantSomeone with that e-mail address signed in and your computer remembered it.
Do you know what passwords your husband usually uses? That’s about all you can do is try to sign in. Other than that you could always put eBlaster on your computer and see if he is using it.
So sorry Debora, this all just stinks. ~ JoAnn

MemberI used Spokeo to look up phone numbers mainly…They were pretty accurate. I did look up myself and H with e-mail etc.. it was spotty info but you could get something. Plug your cell phone number in and you get a name! Names were what I was after…

ParticipantI’ve never known him to have an e-mail address. I know what my other kids “primary” addresses are. And it’s not that one. I don’t think anyone else was here today. JoAnn, why does this come up on Spokeo with a variety of possible matches?
August 23, 2012 at 1:01 am #49120debora
ParticipantAnother odd thing was that my Craigs List was set to another city for jobs. I’ve never searched that city. And when I open my laptop it is always on my last pages viewed. Hmmm…
August 23, 2012 at 1:01 am #49121972
MemberI think Spokeo just reaches for info and I am sure some people just copy the sign in example so the e-mail would be close to a match…

MemberGet a password for your computer and LOCK it down…

ParticipantDebora,
For me this screams: I want you to think I’m doing stuff with your computer. The indentation on the bed (he could have taken it to another room if he was truly trying to be a sluth),
the changes to your Craigs list. I think he’s trying to freak you out, on purpose in a demented gaslighting way. Just to mess with your head. This is just what I think and I could be totally wrong.

ParticipantPS. I would hide my laptop in a different place everyday and lock it down like Bev said.
August 23, 2012 at 1:51 am #49125joann
ParticipantYes, that is the best solution Deb, put a password on it so he can’t get on. Don’t use anything familiar that he might guess.
It’s obvious someone was on your computer. Why not just ask him?
Sorry I can’t help you with Spokeo, i have never used it.
Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.
Hugs ~ JoAnn

ParticipantBev,
Great advice from sisters as always.
Trust your instincts. It was not good, whatever it was. I wouldn’t be trying to drag it out of him. That may indeed be what he wants, a little assurance he can still send you zipping into orbit at will.
Maybe YOU could leave something that would send him over the moon, like a receipt for some really expensive furniture (that a friend bought, or something like that) on the laptop when you leave the room. Then he’ll be the one having to decide what to ask, and how to get around the fact that he was messing with your laptop when he saw it, etc.
Or, you could just ignore it, which is the absolutely most maddening thing to do to a NARC. Just sayin.

ParticipantI know this is an older post Bev, but I can totally relate about the hypervigilance/paranoia! Our counselor has him working on paying attention to what behavior may seem fishy thru my eyes and either not doing said behavior or explain to me what was really going on. He is pretty good at it, most of the time… he does get lazy and sometimes, the fishy behavior is actually fishy behavior for ‘acting out’. Still a work in progress… but I have finally reached a point where, if something seems fishy, I bring it up to him. He is a very trained lier… but I am very good at paying attention and lately, can usually tell if he’s lying or “slipping”. To regain my sense of safety in my own home, I have to just ask, then assess whether I believe what I am told or not. I still go up and down with it… and it is still a work in progress, but I seem to get better about it little by little… day by day.

ParticipantOne thing I didn’t mention, is there any reason he would want to monitor your computer?
He could have installed a program like eBlaster. That would make sense that he would access the e-mail account from your computer to download and install it.
Just a thought. ~ JoAnn

ParticipantJoAnn,
I had the same thought as you did.
Question: if someone else has access to the computer, would it be a good idea to put a program on such as eblaster, so you could monitor who is getting on your computer?
And, you would have to be the 1st one to install this type of program. If someone has installed one already what would happen if you tried to install one – would it detect the other program?

You can check to see if e blaster is installed already. If it isn`t then install it yourself. If I shared a computer then I would have it for sure!
