Preparations for a traveling exhibit for awareness of the devastation SA causes in lives.
November 13, 2011 at 11:31 pm #22178lynngParticipantCalling all artists, photographers, poets, and those who appreciate the arts.
A vision is playing around in my head of a piece of artwork I want to do that will show the progression that a woman is subjected to in being linked to an SA. I want to do this as part of an exhibit titled “dramatic differences” in our studio in Jan. Then it occured to me, there must be other artists who have worked on this subject. I want to meet and join them in creating a traveling exhibit to raise public awareness. I must not the first, and wondered if I might be recreating the wheel. Anyone know of one?
I am in SC. I have access to galleries in the Charlotte, NC area, a few connections in the Raleigh/Durham area, Gastonia, NC, Camden, SC, Atlanta, GA, Ocala, FL, and Pheonix/Tempe, AZ.
Anyone know of anything existing, or want to join in starting one? I have a little experience in writing grants, and a few really great contacts who are experts. We may be able to gather a fair amount of funding if the proposal looks legitimate and professional.
I hope to collect photos that reflect the progression and include them in multimedia exhibits.

The painting is graphic, so I apologize if anyone is offended by it. It shows a woman who is laying naked on a bed bloodied from being stabbed repeatedly by the man standing over her. There is a banner held by two birds which says: Unos Cuantos Pique Titos !
Translated this means : “But it was just a few small nips!”The reason this painting speaks to me is I feel like that is the attitude of my husband. It was just a few small nips, but he does not understand the gravity of these nips. It has killed me.
Here ia a link to see the painting and the description for her meaning behind the painting. She painted it for different reasons than my interpretation, but none the less, it speaks to me.

December 11, 2011 at 5:50 am #22181lynngParticipantThis is gathering momentum. I have an appointment next Tuesday to discuss specifics with a local gallery owner.
Any artists out there, please let me know if you have pieces you would like included.
We are going to take this at least through several SC and NC galleries, and hopefully to NY.

I am impressed with your drive. I love art but I am a silent observer. I do not retain names of artist, but I enjoy and appreciate the works of many. I served on a local Art Gallery board for a while in Wilkesboro, NC where I used to live some 12 years ago. I do not know what I can offer you to help in this endeaver, but I just want you to know that I am over here cheering you on.

December 11, 2011 at 7:22 pm #22185lynngParticipantThanks ladies. I have no choice, if I look back the view is DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!
I’m making a new one, for as many as want to join in and face the future.
Poems, art work, anything would be fair I’d think. A story can live a thousand years, while news clips die on the tongues of the anchor speaking them.
I think it’s called sublimation: “Harry Stack Sullivan, the pioneer of interpersonal psychoanalysis, defined sublimation as the unwitting substitution of a partial satisfaction with social approval for the pursuit of a direct satisfaction which would be contrary to one’s ideals or to the judgment of social censors and other important people who surround one. The substitution might not be quite what we want, but it is the only way that we can get part of our satisfaction and feel secure, too. ” wikipedia
If you can’t kill ’em, plaster your anger on a wall and call it art.
Good enough for me.
