ParticipantSo I’ve been measuring my blood pressure at home for the past few weeks. It’s 145/103 pulse 100, resting. Is this considered bad? I do plan on making it to doctor but should I move this higher in priority? Ugh. I hate this

ParticipantHere’s a chart for you Teneil: http://bloodbeat.org/blood-pressure-chart/
How old are you? (You look 20.)

MemberI think that’s pretty high, Teneil but I’m no doctor. I would definitely get on the phone and schedule that appointment. When I had my blood work done it turned up hypothyroidism so I’m on medication for that now. This shit takes a toll on us physically too so it’s always a good idea to get checked out after going through this kind of stress and trauma.
Hugs,

ParticipantI’m 36. Thanks for the chart. Yes I guess I need to go in.

ParticipantThat sounds a little high to me, but I am no expert (at 90/60, I’m not even on the chart). I would google for some non-medicinal ways to lower blood pressure- no caffeine, regular exercise, meditation, etc. And like Daisy said, see a doctor to rule out problems in addition to stress.

ParticipantIt is high and should definitely be checked. I have been on 2 blood pressure meds for years and my BP was very well controlled until DDay. Then it sky rocketed. When your lower number is over 100, it is a dangerously high BP and could lead to stroke or heart attack. I was put on an anti depressant and given Xanax and it began to come down. The last thing I wanted to do was die from a stroke and let him have my life insurance to fund his addiction. Take care of yourself!!

ParticipantIT’S WAY TOO HIGH!
Get yourself to a doctor. You are in the stroke territory.
No excuses. Or, better yet, go the an out patient clinic or the ER. You need to be on meds yesterday. ~ JoAnn

MemberYour resting heart rate is very high Teneil especially as you don’t look overweight.

ParticipantYes, get to a doctor. No stalling.

ParticipantMy worse was 159/108 yep. That is when the dr told me my h has to move out. I had an app with her when I fell on my butt 3 weeks ago and my bp was the lowest its been in 2 years. 132/85 still a little high, But she decided to not put me on meds. JoAnn is right its stroke range. I took baby aspirin every day on my own accord.
go see the quack. And if you go on bp meds it doesn’t have to be forever – if its stress it can get better.

ParticipantExcellent point. Use whatever help is at your disposal to stay well while you heal. It doesn’t have to be permanent.

ParticipantPlease tell us how you’re doing Teneil. Do you have hypertension in your family?
March 21, 2013 at 4:06 am #82226penny
ParticipantTeneil, uncontrolled blood pressure at your level can cause kidney disease over time. You don’t want kidney disease. Go see a doctor.

ParticipantThanks for all of the concern ladies. Doctor pronto in morning for me. I will keep you updated so you do not worry. No there isn’t hypertension in family. It has to be stress. No crisis, just the back and forth thinking in my head about what the hell to do

MemberYes, your diastolic (lower number) should be 80 or below. Even your systolic is on the high side. I think you will need to go on medication, at least until they determine what is causing it.(though sometimes they don’t find out) Have your cholesterol checked as well in case your vessels are clogged. You have to fast to have your cholesterol checked.

MemberSo glad you have a place to post questions about your wellbing. Let us know how the process is unfolding to get your BP in a healthy range.
While help from a qualified medical professional is needed ASAP, they may not give you instruction on more basic and longterm self care that you can do on your own.
I am primarily thinking of exercise (knowing it is not easy to get any or more when in crisis:).
My area of interest and self management of PTSD is in the alternative/natural realm. It is very time consuming though, but for me, more than worth it.
You will know what is right for you.

Participantso sorry to hear Teneil. I hope you were able to get to a doctor already, let us know how that went. Take care dear

ParticipantAbsolutely take this very seriously. Prolonged elevated high blood pressure makes the heart work harder and the heart muscle buildup as a result is dangerous. Cut out all salt, eat potassium rich foods like oranges, bananas, baked potatoes with skins on no loads of butter or sour cream. dried apricots, baked acorn squash, dark leafy greens like spinach and kale, salmon, low fat non sweetend plain yogurt, avocados, white beans and white mushrooms.
A small glass of red wine every day is also good for high blood pressure. But get thee to a doctor straightaway!

ParticipantHi sisters, the doctor gave me medicine to get my bp under control and also Xanax for anxiety as needed. Thanks for the support girls and pushing me to go. I fight to take care of my kids but even though I know I need to take care of myself, it’s hard to get that going.

Participantglad you are taking care of yourself teneil!
March 21, 2013 at 11:08 pm #82235allcat62
MemberTake care of yourself first Teneil and then you can better look after your babies. xo

MemberRelieved to hear you have been treated Teneil. This stuff is known to impact the physical health of partners. I am certain it gave me breast cancer. I am a great believer in the mind body connection though I am not that alternative. 😉 My health has been improving as my mind has been improving…and I haven’t even taken up yoga yet. 😉

MemberSomewhere along the way one of the sisters (probably Bev – reigning Queen of the Analogy) said that it’s like the oxygen masks on airplanes – you have to put yours on first so you don’t pass out before you take care of your kids. Your health is the same way. You have to stay strong and focused so you can be there for your kids when they need you. Even when they are as old as mine (18 and 20). They still need me in sometimes surprising ways.
Good for you in taking care of this blood pressure situation!
March 22, 2013 at 1:54 pm #82238teri
ParticipantTeneil, so glad that you got on top of that. He’s done enough damage already. Taking care of yourself is protecting yourself from more SA-inflicted wounding.
March, always nice to know another zombie. I am under orders to eat more salty snacks, drink more fluids, and put my feet up and rest frequently to help keep my blood pressure up and get more blood to my heart and brain!
