MemberHi amazing sisters,
I just wanted to post a quick hello. I feel like I’ve been so absentee lately, although I’ve been popping on and off, and I ALWAYS have you all in my heart.
I’ve been kind of crazy-busy over the past week or two. This coming weekend, my husband’s side of the family is coming for our Christmas with them. This is a tradition that has been going on for awhile–where we celebrate the weekend before Christmas. Because our house is centrally-located, everyone drives to our house. Fortunately, they are an easy group. But I still have to make sure I have all of the groceries, house cleaning and Christmas preparations done, as if it were December 24th.
To add to the craziness, we are hosting Christmas for some of my siblings and my mom the following weekend. This is a first for me. My kids have never had Christmas at home. Now, before you feel bad for them, it’s never been an issue. It’s just how it’s always been–we’ve travelled to my hometown, about 3 hours away, and celebrated Christmas with “my” side of the family. Well, my dad passed away in 2007, and hosting Christmas has become increasingly difficult for my mom. Among other things, she now lives in an apartment, which is a tight squeeze for all of us.
So all of a sudden, I found myself hosting Christmas this year. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. Entertaining does not come naturally to me. And the new job, while only part-time, has created a new routine. On top of that, when I agreed to have TWO Christmases this year, I didn’t know that I would be facing a 2nd d-day. (Naive, I guess, but hind sight is 20-20).
Anyway, I’ve been logging on everyday, and keeping up with the posts. I feel badly I haven’t posted/commented as much as I want to, but watch out, come December 26th!!
I miss you all and love you all!!!!

MemberDear ZGirl,
Lovely to hear from you. Xmas is ALOT of work…especially if you are the host. Just the same,,,nice to lose yourself in the traditions of Xmas instead of the insanity of the SA. 😉 I know it will all come off well and we will be happy to see your sweet face back post festivities? Karen xx

ParticipantHI ZG, good to hear from you. I know you will prepare beautiful days for all these important people in your life. Don’t forget to ask for some help. People often want to do something, they just don’t know what is actually helpful.
May you have a wonderful Christmas surprise in the midst of all the work.

MemberThanks, everyone. Kim, good luck with surgery. Wow, what a time of year for that! I too, am feeling “bah humbug” this year. It took me awhile to get motivated to put out decorations; the tree wasn’t decorated as early as usual. Part of it I know is the events of this past year. I was also dreading putting on the happy face. But ultimately it will be good to be with family. Ok, I’m off to start a cleaning frenzy. I think one day after the holidays, I’m going to stay in pj’s all day, and just catch up on SOS! 🙂
Love you all! xoxoDecember 15, 2011 at 3:06 pm #24441cindy1111
ParticipantZ girl,
Don’t know how your doing it all, but I am proud of you. Glad your keeping up with us and checking in, but no need to apologize for anything. Your wisdom is always wonderful and we love to hear about what is going on with you, but we also understand that there are things to do. Sometimes I find that I just do not have the emotional strength to post for awhile. All of these wonderful sisters are always quick to welcome me back, and we are always here for you too.
Hope all goes well.

ParticipantZgirl – Good luck with both Christmases! I’m with Diane, don’t be shy about asking people to help: bring something; arrange activities like a scrap booking session or family videos; be the assigned “beverage” person who makes sure everyone has something when they come in, the fridge stays well stocked, the coffee or teapot stays fresh, whatever your people do.
It can make memories for them, when they help. It made my 3yo son feel like a million bucks when a hostess told him on a long stayover that he could be the one to be sure the dogs always had water in their bowl. He felt needed and appreciated in the huge crowd of big people. Priceless.
Peace and joy for the holidays!

Memberzgirl,
Good luck! You are a better person than I! I don’t host anything, never have, don’t know how. It’s just not in my DNA. But when I go to other people’s homes, the first thing I do is put my coat and purse away, find the hostess and insist that I help in some way while not getting in the way. You will enjoy catching up with family and consuming your brain with love instead of stress. Let your hair down and have a good time!
I know how you feel about not posting and feeling guilty. I’m the same way.
Merry Christmas!
Much love, Claire
