ParticipantMy sister recently had a major surgery to repair the top of her vaginal wall falling down the shaft, her bladder falling down to the point she looked like she was crowning and her colon protruding in somehow. Her doctor asked her if she had been having sex. She responded – not for several years as she is separated.
He asked her if she wanted him to sew her vagina closed!!!!!!
Of course, she told him that she hoped to have sex again someday!
Have you ever heard of anything like that???!!!!

ParticipantNot exactly that, but something equally drastic was mentioned at my Mom’s doctors office. They said they mentioned it only because my father had already passed. What a jab!!! The things they will suggest with the implication that an older woman’s sex life is over, how presumptuous. A man would probably punch them for even suggesting such.
“Gee, your wife has passed and you have this issue with your penis, let’s just slice if off and be done with it”
🙁

ParticipantMy 92 year old mother had a procedure a few years ago that closed her vagina. It was a last resort because everything was falling down and out, and all other avenues failed.
It’s interesting that she didn’t seem to be concerned, but I cried like a baby, as did my best friend. Of course we know the clitoris is still open for business etc., but still it was really symbolic for me. My mom’s gyno was a woman and I went to all the appts and she was very caring in every way.
But my mother was in her late 80’s and a widow who now can’t stand men much. The idea of doing to someone in your sister’s age range is just bizarre! In fact, it feels misogynist to me.April 25, 2013 at 6:44 pm #88714nap

ParticipantHow insulting. How about sewing the doctor’s mouth closed?

MemberGood God…it does seem drastic and I am not aware of it BUT I once worked with a young Mom who had 4 kids close together and fast, hard labours. She told me her vagina would fall out through the vaginal opening and she would have to push it back in. She was probably no more than 30 or 31. By the time she was 50…she would probably need some kind of intervention. I’m thinking sewing it shut is not the answer until we begin to cut theirs off. From a medical point of view it may be easier than harnessing the bladder ext. IDK. 🙁 God…so much to look forward to. 🙁

MemberExactly Liza. Keep the pelvic floor strong. Hold onto your wee mid stream. Squeeze those muscles and keep them strong. Don’t let those female bits fall down without a fight!

ParticipantOh geez… This scares me. I have not been able to hold a pee mid-stream since my son was born. Please, please don’t tell me this is a precursor to mynvagina falling out!

ParticipantHealth care in this country is becoming a joke.
Cheapest intervention does not equal best intervention.
What the actual, actual f***

ParticipantI guess if it gets sewed up and you have sex does that mean you’re a virgin???? “oh dear George, I think you popped my suitures”. There goes the cross stitch……
