ParticipantSome back history for the new girls…my H has a secret spending problem. Last Jan. he bought a watch, which he had shipped to my nephews address, then hid in the barn to pet when he needed a warm fuzzy.
Nov. 2011, my friend saw him at the post office receiving a package that he couldn’t ship to our home address. A brief case.
Last week I went out to the fridge in the pole barn, also known as the porn barn, to get a beer out of his fridge. I noticed the giant, thousand dollar, refrigerator sized smoker he bought, because he wanted to learn to smoke something, turned around. So I turned it around and opened the door and found an ipod docking stereo. So weird. I thought about wrapping it and putting it under the tree for him so he can enjoy it. Or maybe putting my name on it, so I can enjoy it. Who does this? I’ve asked him repeatedly to stop hiding things. It would be really funny if it wasn’t so sad and weird.
Makes me wonder what all he’s bought and where it is. I know he did a bunch of “giving” too. That’s a good thing but not for the reason he was doing it. There was also a rash of investment callers for a few years. Mostly in oil speculation. I think he was thinking he was a big shot and doing a little investing.
So I started in the funny section but now I’m not laughing. It’s that addictive rush and also the NARC supply from the donations. He feels so good giving to causes but tells me we’re so broke.
Most SA’s have multiple addictions. Anyone else have this one or any others?
Scratching my head,

MemberIDK deborah..he sounds kooky. Hiding porn and such I get. Hiding ipod dockers and turkey smokers..not so much. ..
I think you should start hiding everything you find and make him think he is crazy. Gaslight the gaslighter 🙂

ParticipantHell yeah…. Gaslighting the gaslighter is my favorite hobby these days. My most favorite trick of all is making cash disappear!

ParticipantI can’t stop laughing about Bev’s answer. What he does is so weird, and then for Deborah to double the fun is just too funny!
In answer to the other addiction question: my husband had an addiction to sun bathing that corresponded with the time-frame he was seeing prostitutes. Yes, sun bathing can be an addiction and he met all the criteria.

ParticipantMy xh addictions were: smoking, flirting at work, sex with all kinds of skanks, erotic massages, self grooming, he was weird about his feet, they were as soft as a babys but, buying a new car every three years. Really picky about his hair too.

ParticipantHe wasn’t addicted to me though 🙁
And I used to love him so much, now he’s just a strange stranger. Oh well, life goes on……….I wish him all the whatever, he’s a miserable person, never happy.December 11, 2012 at 10:46 am #64096trish
ParticipantNap – that was my exact thought when I spoke to my husband last evening. He is a stranger. Even my beautiful daughter said “Who is he – is he bi-polar?”. God, it is so sad. No worries though. Anger is my fuel today – and we are getting and decorating a tree and I am determined to give my girl a better day than she walked in on yesterday when she came home from college.

Participantdeborah- my STBX gets addicted to buying things on EBAY. I don’t know what all he buys- he has it shipped to his office. At least I think it was EBAY. He would sneak off to his computer and say he had to check on his bids. Hmmmm…..No, I actually have printed out hundreds of bids he had going on his legit email account.
But I love the idea of hiding his goodies or wrapping them up.
What a weirdo. What the hell goes on in these guys’ heads?

ParticipantTrish,
It’s that determination to give your daughter a Christmas and that drive to live life that keeps us moving and surviving. Life is suppose to flow. I think it’s great and so important what you are doing. What a great example for your daughter too. You sound like a really special person Trish. We all are and we can’t let them stop our lives. It’s not easy but necessary. Our circumstances may change but our soul never changes.

MemberRegift his shit to him. Love it Bev!
Tell him since he’s hard to buy for, you gave him stuff you knew he wanted bc he bought it himself.
At least he won’t return your “gifts”. Lol!!!

MemberOh My…you girls do make me smile. 🙂 He is so strange Deborah…I also get hiding the porn….. but the smoker??? I suppose it is his way of giving himself everything he wants while trying to sell you on the “I am so broke” idea. Pathetic really?

ParticipantMy SAH goes from one addiction to the next. He has had phases where he plays golf every day to none at all (now). Then there was the “walk on the beach” thing – where he did it all the time – and now not at all. He loves his Iphone now and can’t stop looking at it, reading the news (yawn). He has also gone through a buying clothing phase….he has more clothing than I do.
He has expressed much worry about what addiction is going to spring up now that he has given up grannies. I think most of these guys have OCD underlying all this stuff so it’s bound to go sideways.

ParticipantEewww…. Deb! Your SA sounds like the ones who blame it all on their “addiction”…
Oh my, what will I obsess over next?? I wish I could help it, but I can’t.
Yeah right.
