InactiveI know that some of you work in healthcare, so I’m hoping someone can give me some advice…
My husband had a 3-day blood pressure check last week, and each day, the top number was indicative of Stage I Hypertension, while the bottom was indicative of Stage II Hypertension. Some of this could be stress from disclosure (if this is the case, I’d hate to have seen what his BP was prior to disclosure, because he’s actually been less stressed since he came clean), some could be stress from work and some could just be an unhealthy lifestyle (we don’t eat as well as we should and he hasn’t had much time to exercise lately.) He has an appointment with a Cardiologist in a couple of weeks, and then a follow-up with his PCM. What can he do in the meantime to help lower his blood pressure, aside from the obvious things like more exercise and lowering sodium intake?
Thanks!January 26, 2011 at 7:57 pm #9822nap
ParticipantHi Cardinalbluejay,
Love your name (I love birds and all nature). Anxiety can increase blood pressure too. If he is anxious, he may want to try some breathing exercises to try to lower his anxiety level. Hope this is helpful.January 26, 2011 at 8:50 pm #9823Anonymous
InactiveThanks. 🙂 I’ll suggest that to him.

InactiveHis last reading was 148/110. All of his other readings last week were similar (all top numbers in the 140’s, all bottom numbers in the 100’s.) He’s only 39 years old and is somewhat overweight, but not obese. I’m really concerned about him.

ParticipantHi cardinalbluejay,
The most important question here is. ‘How is your blood pressure?’ Stress from living with a SA can be severe. When I first found out my cholesterol levels went from mid 150’s to over 400! My blood pressure skyrocketed, my hair started falling out, I couldn’t eat and sleep was non existent.
Yes, your husband has hypertension and his doctor will probably put him on medication. Salt intake is not always a factor. He needs to lose weight. But, just as with the Sex Addiction, he needs to take responsibility for himself. He brought on the stress and he needs to find ways to reduce it.
You, on the other hand, need to take care of yourself. Have you had a physical check up since D-day? Are you seeing a counselor? Are you taking the time to engage in stress reducing activities every day?
Take care of yourself my dear. I can almost guarantee that he’s not wasting two brain cells worrying about what all this has done to you. You have enough of a burden just healing yourself to spend any of that precious energy worrying about him right now. He’ll go to the doctor and have it taken care of.
Eventually (in my spare time) I will have an eBook on stress and ways to reduce it.

InactiveSo sorry JoAnn, that’s very scary, I hope those levels have normalized themselves somewhat now!?
I used to be a skinny rat up to 4 years ago, almost underweight, always low blood pressure, my cholesterine was below the average normal level. I also suffer with sleeplessness for years, get dizzy spells and have a Tinnitus too now.
Last year I went for a routine check-up at my docs. My bloodpressure was hig and my cholesterine had shot up too. I have put on a stone and although that only gets me to 112 pounds, I feel fat and unhappy with my weight. I think the weight has climbed up mainly through not having any sexersizes anymore… I only have to think about all this extra crap and it makes me want to go downstairs, grab a frying pan and hit my old man over the head with it until doomsday!
I am on medication for my BP since anyway and it’s under control. I haven’t had my cholesterine checked since, I don’t want to know. All of that really scared me and makes me angry beyond words.
Btw. my husband sleeps like a baby and his BP is perfectly normal. There is no justice in this world!!!
