ParticipantI have been offered a 25-30 hour/wk position working with the Flood REcovery program in High River (45 minutes south of my home in Calgary). It’s being run out of The United Church there, and they were looking for someone with experience working with PTSD survivors, and someone who could deal with the gov’t rehab programs for homes etc.
For those who do no know, the worst natural disaster in Canada happened last June in Alberta. High River was one of the hardest hit areas. Whole neighbourhoods are being abandoned and will not be rebuilt, other homes are down to shells, still others had six feet of water in the basement. Business closed and left, and people are still living in trailers the govt brought in. So it’s a little like New Orleans.
The work is a year long project and likely two years. So that gives me some steady income. It’s also important because I can use everything I have learned in my own PTSD life, and in our life together on this site. Thank you for everything you have taught me about ptsd and Complex ptsd!
I’m also grateful for your ongoing support and encouragement in my own recovery. I treasure each one of you, without exception. You have changed my life for the good, and a part of your generosity is going to spill over into the lives of another whole group in High River, facing different challenges but struggling with the same symptoms.
So everyone, let’s take bow.
love,
Diane.

MemberDiane…I am ABSOLUTELY thrilled for you and I know you will bring grace to all the people you serve in High River. If I was in despair and darkness, I would recognise you instantly by the beacon of light that radiates all around you. You will be a rare gift to all those displaced spirits.

ParticipantDiane I love your new pic. You look so vogue and the hat is adorable! Is it leopard print and furry it’s so pretty (looks warm too!)
~NapJanuary 20, 2014 at 3:50 pm #124345diane
ParticipantThanks NAP.
I got that hat years ago and I can’t let it go, so I just keep sewing it up when the seams separate. It’s hard to find a warm hat that doesn’t look stupid and in Alberta, we need one! The fur isn’t real.
We were at Lake Louise (google it–its one of the most photographed places in the world) for the ice sculpture competition that they hold every year just between the Fairmont Hotel and the Lake (which is frozen now). Competitors come from all over the world including the US, and they have these really cool things to keep warm—-four foot chunks of tree trunk, slit crosswise so it opens up the log but doesn’t split it. Then they bore a hole in the side at the bottom for air flow, and they light a fire down inside the log, and it burns from the inside out. And they have an ice bar (everything is made of ice–tables etc) and you can get hot chocolate with shots of different things in it. I might post a few pics I took (not of the sculputres because that never shows up right, but of pretty scenery)

ParticipantDiane how neat. As a kid we took summer vacations by car. My parents car had bucket seats and us 4 kids were smashed in the back. We took 2 vacations to Canada and I saw Lake Louise. My mind takes pictures and I can still see it. It’s sooo beautiful. On another trip we camped (tent) and fished at Sibley (sp) Provential Park. If I remember that right. Canada is a beautiful country.

ParticipantDianne, congratulations! The misfortunes of these people are so enormous, so they will need to look for positives where they can find them. God gave them you.

MemberOh my gosh, Diane, this is great!!
This is such an example of a window opening when a door has been closed. You have taken your crushing grief and worked through it to now become a healer for others in their grief.
I’m embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t even heard of this horrible natural disaster in Canada. Either the US press didn’t report it widely enough, or it’s evidence of how much of a fog I live my life in. Either way, I’m so sorry to hear of such a tragedy.

MemberYep….she is a walking, talking, breathing angel our Diane….a REAL live miracle. Naturally, angels and miracles show up JUST when you need them most? I love that thought and have experienced it first hand. We shouldn’t be so afraid of life and change and bad things. Angels and Goddesses walk among us. To me, its a fact and a great comfort. Diane is going to make a whole lot of unlucky people feel like it is going to be ok and if it isn’t ok, it isn’t the end yet? 😉
