I’m typing this with a lump in my throat from this book. It is the true story of Neil White who was sentenced to 18 months in Federal Prison after being convicted of check kiting and bank fraud and finds himself incarcerated in Carville, the National Leper Colony in Louisiana. It is a thought provoking story about a man who learns profound lessons about life from the lepers he gets to know during his imprisonment (including not calling them lepers). Obviously this has nothing to do with SA, but it has some great lessons about accepting the unexpected hardships in life, learning to see ourselves clearly and understanding what is truly important in life. Neil is an incredibly shallow, narcissistic person who manages to gain a lot of insight and empathy from his experience. Maybe I should be recommending this to the SAs instead of to you. 🙂

By “this”, you mean a leper colony?

    Daisy,
I read that book about 2 yrs ago and loved it!!! It was a great true story. I think what I liked about it too was these people were truly happy where they lived most of their lives. The nuns, if I remember right, gave them a loving and caring life. I think Neil was really humbled how happy they were even though they were ‘outcasts’. Highly recommend it too.

I wouldn’t do that to the lepers, Teri. 😀 Lisa, I’m an admitted book addict. Reading non-SA books is my drug of choice. Nap, I’m so glad you read it too. I really, really enjoyed it. I think it has some good life lessons.

I get it, Daisy, although maybe if they got leprosy, their wankers would fall off.

Add it to the pile beside my bed, then, Daisy. I need another lifetime just to read. 🙂
