I took a couple of knitting classes last month, and I’ve found it to be so therapeutic. For Christmas I knitted a little hat and some booties for my niece who’s expecting a baby in February. Baby will have to be born with a very large head, and with one foot larger than the other, but it was really fun. And when the classes were over, I found some easy knitting videos online to learn some of the stitches that the class didn’t cover. It was my sweet son who convinced me to take the class, because I’d happened to mention that there was a yarn store around the corner from my house, and that it made me think of his Nannie, my mom, who passed away last year, and who was a beautiful knitter. I’m so glad I listened to him instead of doing my usual isolating thing and not bothering, because it’s given me an outlet that takes me out of myself and makes me focus on something positive. For Christmas my son bought me some beautiful yarn, which touched me so much. So I’m attempting to knit a scarf for my sister, which will probably take me a zillion years to finish, but it’s really nice to have a project. I’ve always wished I were artistic, but unfortunately that gene escaped me, so easy knitting fits the bill for me. Would love to hear from you sisters what sort of outlets you’ve found that help you. xoxo

Annie, I wish I could get knitting, all I can do is scarves. Guess crocheting is more my thing, but haven’t dont that in a few years now. I dabble in calligraphy. I actually started a business advertising hand-written invitations, etc, but when the economy tanked a couple years ago I sort of gave up advertising…brides just couldn’t afford it. Now I’m out of practice and don’t do it anymore.

Your son sounds so thoughtful, you are blessed.

I’m babysitting my four-month-old grandson tonight, such a little pumpkin! Mom and dad are out riding in a limo for their good friend’s b’day. Me and Gmpa and baby are having an overnighter 🙂

    Have a good evening!

Knitting sounds like a very good idea Annie. My mom as a lovely knitter. Many people say it is very therapeutic. I tried it years ago and just got frustrated…maybe not my thing. It is lovely that your son is helping you and is so thoughtful? Ms Lindy…4 months old? A glorious age and one you wish you could just freeze? 🙂 Karen xx

I lurve knitting! I find it really helps me think about things gently, without getting hung up on anything in particular, like how I feel when I go for a walk or a drive. The motion helps my thoughts flow.

I made my dad a scarf for Xmas which he loved, this pattern in charcoal and black:

It took me AGES but I do like having a project lying around to work on.

    Hi Anniem
I am rubbish at knitting but I can sew. I used to sew for a living so I’m not bad. I’m glad it is not my job anymore as I have begun to enjoy it as a hobby again. I love being able to create something and yes it’s a fantastic way to feel good.

I took up crochet when I gave up smoking, running when I left my first husband and am sewing now. Latest projects have been nativity related at church and a cool sparkly super suit for my sons fancy dress box!
Certainly better obsessing about sequins and fabric than anything else!!

When I quit drinking, I took up crocheting again. I’d learned as a child but hadn’t done it for years. Just made scarves, not very ambitious, but got so addicted, was crocheting in the car at red lights. After I found out about the SA, I began making charm bracelets, and my latest projects are movie bracelets made of photos and resin. I also make funny nesting dolls via decoupage and have just tried my hand at a couple of shrine boxes. All of these require no skills or talent but are great fun. I put theme music on Pandora, according to what I’m making. Partridge Family nesting dolls had me listening to them, the Monkeys, Jackson Five, etc. Here’s a link to my stuff: http://www.etsy.com/shop/VanMarch?ref=si_shop

I like to knit and crochet too. My mother and grandmother were very good at it. I just like the to knit for the heck of it. I just learned how to crochet cute little flowers. I would love to learn how to knit socks.

March, I love your nesting dolls. You are very talented and creative.

    hugs!!!!

    March, your stuff is amazing!

And so cool to hear what you guys do. I’d love to be able to crochet but somehow could never get past learning the first basic stitch. And Lindy, how fun to have had an overnighter with your grandson, and I hope you decide to get back into calligraphy. It’s so beautiful. xoxo
