MemberHi sisters!
Again, I have been a little MIA from SOS. But are definitely NOT “out of sight, out of mind.” A couple weeks ago, my 15 year old daughter and I had a great mother/daugther trip to Disney World. I missed my son, but he’s not a Disney type of kid. My husband didn’t want to go either. I definitely did NOT miss his negative energy!!
I came back home ready to finish helping our son shop and pack for college. He leaves this coming Friday as a new freshman. Not easy on a mom! Anyway, the last thing I expected was a call regarding a new job for me! I just went back to work last year, after being home with my kids for the previous 7 years. The job I took last year was a teacher aide position in our local middle school. It wasn’t many hours and not a lot of pay, but it felt so good to take that baby step and get back out into the world. I was ready to get back there in a few weeks, but also to keep my eyes open for better opportunities. With divorce pending in the future, I need to get all of my ducks in a row and be able to somewhat support myself.
Well, out of the blue, a mom from my daughter’s dance school called me last Friday. She owns 2 dance apparel stores, and is opening a third right next to my daughter’s studio. My name was recommended to her, and she wanted to see if I was interested not only in working, but in becoming the manager (!!!!). Now, keep in mind I have no managerial experience. It is a small store though. She said she will train me. She is also very flexible to my needs with getting my daughter to where she needs to be.
I am so excited, yet overwhelmed at the same time. I’m a little nervous to go back to work full time after years off…I usually need a little time to mentally prepare myself. Yet here I am…I started yesterday. Things are crazy, and yet I am jumping in with both feet. I’m scared as heck but excited too. So wow…wish me luck. I need all of the good energy I can get! 🙂
Wish me luck with the college drop off Friday. SA will be of no comfort. He’s Dr. Spock…logical and unemotional all of the way.
I never really believed “things happen for a reason,” but now I’m beginning to wonder.
Love to all of my amazing sisters!!! xoxoAugust 22, 2012 at 2:57 am #48993nap

MemberAwesome news! Not only will you love the job, you’ll be great at it too. I mean, really, a dance clothing shop? You’ll get to see all the neat new outfits before everyone else. How fun! I worked in retail a couple times. I wasn’t very good at it, but it’s not what i wanted to do, either! Best of luck, girl!
So proud of your son for going to college. When my son went i was grinning from ear to ear, so damn proud of him. You’ll look forward to seeing him and hearing from him with all his new experiences.
Miss you around here. Peak in more often!
Much love, Claire

ParticipantCongrats! The only thing that would have been better is if it was closer to your NC guy…..is that ever a possibility? How old is your daughter? Would she be up for moving?
At any rate – things are really falling into place for you Julie…I’m so happy for you. Keep giving us positive news….it helps those of us still in the trenches.

MemberDear Sisters,
You are all so kind, loving, funny, and wondeful; you all bring tears to my eyes! I can’t believe I met you all on the internet, and how much you all mean to me. SL, thank you for the props, bestie!!
Debinca, I would love to be closer to NC. Don’t think it hasn’t crossed my mind! However, my daughter has 3 more years of highschool, and I just couldn’t pull her away from her life here. However, this gives me 3 years to get a life for myself, and then we’ll just see what happens from there.
Thanks for the positive wishes!!! xoxo!!August 23, 2012 at 12:12 am #49011flora

MemberThank you, JoAnn, and all! I was so worried about this job, but after less than a week, I can see it’s already going to be a great thing.
Tonight we are packing for college. I’m trying not to let SA, aka Robot/Dr. Spock, suck the life out of this experience. He’d better not rush me with my goodbyes tomorrow, because the bitch is back. 😉
Love you all…thanks for good wishes, and I think of you all every single day, even if I can’t get on to post!!! xoxoxoxoAugust 24, 2012 at 3:10 am #49014silver-lining
