MemberMy younger brother Mark is having a bone marrow transplant next Wednesday. The big rounds of chemo started yesterday to destroy his own bone marrow. He is a beautiful man (only 47) with a wife and 2 teenage sons. He has T cell non Hodgkin lymphoma along with Duncan’s disease. Please keep him in your prayers. Catherine

MemberDear Catherine, I will be praying for your brother, his family and you. There is nothing worse than seeing someone so close going through cancer treatments. I am sure that you will be a strong support for your whole family through this ordeal. Sending you lots of love across the miles… x Janey

ParticipantThoughts and prayers to all of you.
from the Irish Poet John O’Donoghue:
A Blessing for a Friend on the Arrival of IllnessNow is the time of dark invitation
beyond a frontier that you did not expect.
Abruptly your old life seems distant.
You barely noticed how each day opened a path
through fields never questioned
yet expected deep down to hold treasure.
When the reverberations of shock subside in you,
may grace come to restore you to balance.
May it shape a new space in your heart
to embrace this illness as a teacher
who has come to open your life to new worlds.
May you find in yourself a courageous hospitality
towards what is difficult, painful and unknown.May you use this illness as a lantern
to illuminate the new qualities that will emerge in you.
May your fragile harvesting of this slow light help you
release whatever has become false in you.
May you trust this light to clear a path
through all the fog of old unease and anxiety
until you feel a rising within you,
a tranquility profound enough to call the storm to stillness.May you find the wisdom to listen to your illness,
ask it why it came,
why it chose your friendship,
where it wants to take you,
what it wants you to know,
what quality of space it wants to create in you,
what you need to learn to become more fully yourself,
that your presence may shine in the world.May you keep faith with your body,
learning to see it as a holy sanctuary
which can bring this night wound
gradually towards the healing and freedom of dawn.August 29, 2013 at 12:03 am #105890daisy1962

MemberThank you girls. Mark has had the second big dose of chemo today. He isn’t sick but he is very tired. He is now in isolation. In the ward he was in there was 3 other patients. They had all had transplants. One failed and the patient returned to country NSW to die. Another was sent to ICU with pneumonia and the other had to go to his own room because he was so sick. That left mark on his own fir the weekend. Very, very confronting.

ParticipantCatherine, that’s gotta be upsetting to watch everyone around you get sick and be taken away. Being alone like that must be tough. Hopefully he is sleeping through most of it.
You and your family are in my thoughts. Take care.
