ParticipantI have it. In the beginning, the outbreaks are pretty awful–painful blisters, flu-like symptoms. Over time, less awful and less frequent. Stress can bring on an outbreak, so I’ve been bothered more than I should be. You can take Acyclovir or Zovirax, but I don’t take anything at this point.

MemberDeb, i’m really sorry to hear this. i work in the HIV/STD field and am all too familiar… something very important to note is that a herpes outbreak makes people more susceptible to acquiring other STI’s if they are exposed. please make sure that your SAH and yourself are being tested for everything. i know it is humiliating and unfair but you owe it to yourself and your kids to take the best possible care of your health.
it sounds from your post that you are unsure whether your SAH has had this for a while, and it’s just been dormant, or whether it is a newly acquired infection. has he ever been tested for STIs before? have you ever seen any spots, redness, flaking or sores on his penis? herpes *can* be dormant for a long time, but if someone gets a severe cold or is under a lot of stress, or even has been drinking a lot – that kind of stuff can trigger an outbreak from time to time. that said, as was mentioned above, some folks never really have symptoms, or don’t have symptoms that bother them enough to notice.October 9, 2012 at 12:30 am #54773debinca
ParticipantNope – no sores, etc. He remember when he was a 17 having a huge “boil” down there but that’s it. He could have had it for a long time….who knows. If I think he got after we met, I’ll be very pissed. Wish I knew but I guess I never will know. As far as I know, he’s never had an STD test, just an HIV test for life insurance.
Thanks all – yes, it’s the last thing I really need right now. I wasn’t that excited about having sex with him again – and now this has really clinched it.
I’ll check with my doctor to see if she tested me for Herpes 2 or not last year when I had my test.
This stuff is maddening and sad all at the same time.

MemberIf he had it before you met then you would have it too. I doubt you used condoms your whole married life….
I am so sorry deb. I hope you test negative.

Participant‘I wasn’t that excited about having sex with him again’ – that says it all, deb. listen to your body, it knows. there is deep wisdom there that you can trust.

ParticipantThanks Bev – yes, I’m doing OK. Just had an “orgy” dream last night and also one last week (I hate those).
I really need to get a job, but I’m dealing with getting the family settled – we move into our house tomorrow (we’ve been staying in a temp beach house), and I have to do the taxes from last year today (Oct. 15 late filing deadline looming). SAH has been very attentive and kind, which is good. Kids are very jangled from the move. The beach has been my healing space. I’m hanging in there – thanks for checking in.
