I am considering putting a henna in my hair. I have not used one since I was a teenager. I’m wondering if any of you use henna as a more natural hair dye. I’m not interested in changing my colour….only coloring the grey. I am a pretty dark brunette and using dark hair dyes can do a real number on your hair health. Now, I have done quite abit of research and I know it is messy and time consuming and you are kind of stuck with it the choice. Just wondered if any of you have gone this route and could tell me how it worked out for you?

Wish I knew, Karen, but that’s out of my field of expertise. But, as I am prone to say, why the hell not?

Well…it can turn your hair green and once you henna you cannot switch back to regular dye. 🙂 But as you say…what the Hell. I have taken bigger risks in my life…..

Just thought there might be some organic or green types floating around on here?

You can try a semi or demi permanent. That is what I use and it washes out after a few weeks. It doesn’t leave a line and doesn’t change your actual hair color.

    Hi Karen,
I don’t dye because I would never be able to keep it up. My hair is so thick that it is turning grey pretty gradually. What I do is use products by Aveda which are natural colours that don’t really cover grey, but they intensify the colour that remains. Natural “dyes” like these don’t do well on grey alone. I use the “Clove” one now. It’s brown. I used to use “madder root” but as I got more grey I was in danger of it going kind of pink. They have shampoos and conditioners in this line.
good luck and do what makes your heart happy

I do not advise it. There is something about the dye that stays in your hair for a very long time. There are other natural lines that are a better bet.

Ah, Seeking Peace, Sister…. I’m SO happy to see you post on this topic. In my mind that shows that you’re feeling a bit better! Let’s face it girls, Beauty is both painful and messy, (just like life with a SA) but the payoff is definitely worth it (unlike life with a SA)!
