I remember I brought this up, a year or so ago, how to tell if your SA is lying. For those of you who are unable to tell, try this out. It works 99% of the time for me. Am not sure what makes it accurate – just know it is a neurological response. A psychiatrist colleague of mine told me about it.
Ask a yes or no question and watch the right eye dilate if the person is lying. Whenever my SAH is lying, his right eye always dilates. When it is a whopper, it looks like it is going to blow out. Ha! Check it out – it actually works.
Wow. I am going to watch for that. I watch for all kinds of things, respiration rate, blood vessels in the neck, shallow breathing…I’ll add this…Thank you.

p.s., I only wish this method were that simple, Sharron. I’ve never seen any of this with my SA. In fact, I’ve never seen any of the signs JoAnn’s article refers to–all the ones I thought I’d see if my h had been lying–eyes shifting, vocal changes etc. I’m guessing physiological changes are far more easy to detect in someone who doesn’t lie very frequently.
Hi All – my therapist validated, today, the theory of eye dilation with lying. He has read many studies on the subject and believes in it.
Of course, there are many other ways to tell – body language, pitch of voice, facial expressions, etc.
